Mock Draft 5.0: Bazin vs Stanhouse
Alright so a year removed but we are doing another Bazin vs
Stanhouse mock draft. Bazin will be doing the AFC (Miami) picks and Stanhouse
will be doing the NFC (Tampa) so both of us will be representing our favorite
teams. There will be trades active in this mock and the team with the pick can
look to trade out or a team can ask to trade up to a team on the clock. (Note:
If two teams from the same conference want to trade, the person from the other
conference has to “accept” the trade but the same conference owner will make
the selection).
1.
KB: Cincinnati
Bengals – QB Joe Burrow, LSU Team Needs: QB, EDGE, iOL, LB
KB: This is a slam dunk. Any questions? Didn’t think so.
TS: No questions, but the 2nd pick is actually the best
player in the draft and is a steal already.
2.
TS: Washington
Redskins – EDGE Chase Young, Ohio St Team Needs: WR, CB, OT, TE, CB, iOL
TS: AKA Defensive Rookie of the Year.
KB: It’s so dumb that we can put that
award in pen already, but it is pretty much true.
TS: Before I make Detroit’s pick, do you
think that pick might be a trading target for a QB?
KB: As far as Miami goes, the Dolphins
don’t want to package one of their 1sts to come up. Chargers may have interest
though…
TS: How does the 3rd pick for the 6th,
37th and 2021 2nd rounder sound?
3.
TRADE! KB:
Los Angeles Chargers – QB Tua Tagovaiola, Alabama Team Needs: QB, OT, RB, CB
KB: Surprised you weren’t asking for more
to be honest! The Chargers will take that trade and their franchise QB. I
believe Tua is the top guy behind Burrow.
TS: Giants have an obvious need at OT, but
which one is the question. 4 good options.
KB: I’ll just say I’m not envious of you
at this pick. This is one of the toughest decisions of the draft to peg.
4.
TS: New York
Giants – OT Tristan Wirfs, Iowa Team Needs: LB, OT, EDGE
TS: Wirfs has the most upside of all OL,
but I think Wills is more NFL ready to play day 1.
TS: Wills is so fundamentally strong, he’s
almost ready to be a coach, based on what I watched on a comparison video
between the two. But the athlete you find in Wirfs is rarer and he’s not a
liability in the “fundamentals”. It’s going to really depend on what the new
coach is looking for.
KB: Alright alright… so I got a couple
weird offers for two AFC teams that may want to move up to jump Detroit for
Okudah. To Houston… I’ll give you pick 5 and a sack of potatoes for Deshaun
Watson.
TS: I mean considering Watson might not
like the Texans anymore… nah this GM just didn’t want Hop and Hop didn’t want
them. Next.
KB: Alright to Jacksonville… Pick 5 and 56
(late 2nd) for pick 9 and Yannick Ngakoue. Jacksonville should love
this lockdown corner and Ngakoue has made it clear he wants out.
5.
TRADE! KB: Jacksonville
Jaguars (from Miami Dolphins) – CB Jeffrey Okudah, Ohio St Team Needs: DT, LB,
CB, OT, S
TS: Wow this one is weird. Using a bad
relationship player to trade up. I can’t say no to this.
KB: Okudah is the next Ramsey without the
known attitude issues. How about them apples Detroit? Miami with the middle
finger!
6.
TS: Detroit
Lions (from Los Angeles Chargers) – LB Isaiah Simmons, Clemson Team Needs: OG,
CB, EDGE, DT
TS: Freak athlete that many say will go
top 4. Jabrill Peppers type that can play safety or slot corner.
KB: I really wasn’t sure where this pick
would go without Okudah/Young. Derrick Brown would’ve been solid, but they got
a true chess piece. Also, Jabrill Peppers as a comp is a slap in the face to
Simmons. He is a true Unicorn.
TS: True, being a unicorn, there might not
be a good comp. Anyways, Panthers pick is a bit easier now… funny you should
mention him.
7.
TS: Carolina
Panthers – DT Derrick Brown, Auburn Team Needs: DT, CB, LB, iOL
TS: Another top prospect of this draft. I don’t think this pick is
difficult. Panthers need everything on defense, so they’ll be happy with any
one of the last 3 picks to fall to them.
KB: Surprised the Panthers didn’t entertain trade offers. I don’t see
a team besides maybe AZ that takes Brown between here and 13-14.
8.
TS: Arizona
Cardinals – OT Jedrick Wills, Alabama Team Needs: DT, EDGE, LB, OT
TS: Will play right side, day one starter
that can make the cardinals suddenly one of the best offenses in the NFL.
KB: Securing Hopkins for them was huge, but
I think the OL is still a work in progress. I do agree with this pick.
9.
KB: Miami
Dolphins (from Jacksonville Jaguars) – QB Justin Herbert, Oregon Team Needs:
QB, RB, OT, iOL, DT, EDGE, S
KB: Move back and pick up Ngakoue for just
a 2nd rounder and still getting a QB that they do really like? Sign
me up!
TS: I really like Herbert, but I think
there is a big QB drop off after him. 3 really good ones and the rest are
projects at best.
10.
KB: Cleveland
Browns – OT Mekhi Becton, Louisville Team Needs: OT, S, LB
KB: Addressed right tackle in free agency.
Time to get the stopgap for the left side.
TS: No contest with this pick. Makes
sense.
11.
KB: New York
Jets – OT Andrew Thomas, Georgia Team Needs: OT, WR, iOL, EDGE
KB: Jets “attempted” to rebuild their OL in free agency. This guy is
already the best of the bunch they brought in this offseason.
TS: Again, no argument. I believe these are the teams the top 4 OL
will go to in this draft, with maybe a change in where they land.
KB: I am pretty confident about OL to NYJ, but what do you think about
WR considering the gaping hole at WR1?
TS: Maybe they trade back up into the first, or maybe they won’t even
have to because of the depth in this WR class. Also, nobody seems to agree when
they are going to be drafted. They need to help out Darnold out as they have
set themselves up for failure. But addressing the OL should help out the
offense as a whole, run and pass.
12.
KB: Las Vegas Raiders – WR Jerry Jeudy,
Alabama Team Needs: WR, CB, DT
KB: Amari Cooper 2.0? I don’t think so.
Amari can be a lazy route runner at times and his get-off can be lackluster.
Jeudy is a technician and while he may be quiet off the field, his play
wouldn’t show it.
TS: I’ve seen Jeudy as the general first
WR off the board, but I don’t think so.
KB: I have Lamb, Jeudy, Ruggs as my big
board. But the Raiders value championship pedigree teams with all of their
Clemson/Bama picks last year under new GM Mayock.
TS: I think Lamb is the man, but that
makes sense from the Raiders perspective.
TS: While the 49ers need draft picks, I
think they are more likely to trade the 31st pick and get a new star here. Lots
of potential picks here though…
13.
TS: San
Francisco 49ers (from Indianapolis Colts) – WR CeeDee Lamb, Oklahoma Team
Needs: CB, WR, iOL, DT
TS: I think this is the best WR in the
class, with Jeudy also in contention. 49ers have needed a WR1 for a while. This
pick makes them scary.
KB: I also think Jeudy would be WR1 for
SF, but I’m with you given that he is gone. How do you pass on this kind of
talent at a position of need?
14.
TS: Tampa Bay
Buccaneers – EDGE K’Lavon Chaisson, LSU Team Needs: OT, RB
TS: With Nassib gone, they need someone to
replace 7 sacks in an important role. Perfect situation for Chaisson. He’ll
need to time to develop as a starter, but the 20-year-old is extremely
talented. Not to mention Barrett is likely short term.
KB: I feel like the Bucs make a splash
early in this draft considering their new super bowl window. But this pick does
make a lot of sense with them resigning Suh.
15.
KB: Denver
Broncos – WR Henry Ruggs III, Alabama Team Needs: WR, CB, OT
KB: This is as bad a kept secret as Miami
liking Tua. If he is here, they won’t wait.
KB: Hey Atlanta, this is Jon Gruden man. I
have a feeling you guys have quite a few guys you like available at this spot,
man. Would you want to move back and pick up pick 91 and move back 3 picks to
19? Knock on wood if you’re with me man.
16.
TRADE! KB:
Las Vegas Raiders (from Atlanta Falcons) – CB CJ Henderson, Florida Team Needs: WR, DT,
CB
TS: Atlanta will accept that offer. We do
have a few players we like at this spot and one should be there at 19. An extra
pick will certainly help.
KB: Two biggest needs. Two top 10 players
on their board. Two leaders/high character guys. Two home runs.
17.
TS: Dallas
Cowboys – DT Javon Kinlaw, South Carolina Team Needs: CB, S, EDGE, OC
TS: Most mocks have Kinlaw gone by now, but early
mocks had the Cowboys drooling on Kinlaw. If he falls here, especially with
Henderson and the 3 WRs gone, Kinlaw is the guy.
KB: Chaisson gone as well is big. I could
see the Cowboys picking the guy that the Bucs don’t take between Chaisson and
Kinlaw (assuming the WRs and Henderson are gone). But I’m not surprised with
the fall. He is a top 10 player, just not a very valuable position.
18.
KB: Miami
Dolphins (from Pittsburgh Steelers) – OT Austin Jackson, USC Team Needs: RB,
OT, iOL, DT, EDGE, S
KB: As much as the focus is on the QB pick
for Miami, this is actually the pick that I am the most worried about. If the
top 4 tackles are gone (likely), what does Miami do? I go Jackson because he is
still young at 20 years old and has room to grow but has maturity beyond his
years (gave bone marrow to sister). Josh Jones is here but hasn’t taken a leap
in development as much as I would’ve liked to see.
19.
TS: Atlanta
Falcons (from Las Vegas Raiders) – LB Kenneth Murray, Oklahoma Team Needs:
EDGE, CB, DT, RB
TS: I’m going with a dark horse that I think people are sleeping on.
The Falcons need a lot of pieces on defense. Murray is a foundation to the
direction they’re going. They’re happy with him, Chaisson or Henderson here.
KB: Oh wow! That is a dark horse. Haven’t seen this at all, but I
can’t think of a traditional LB that they have. Jacksonville is in a bit of a
pinch now and may want to trade out.
20.
KB: Jacksonville
Jaguars (from Los Angeles Rams) – LB Patrick Queen, LSU Team Needs: DT, CB, LB,
OT, S
KB: Jacksonville doesn’t get any good
offers for a team wanting to jump Philly for a WR or someone wanting Love, so
they will settle in nicely with a 3 down LB. The Jags have so many positions of
need. However, after adding Okudah they will take a man to pair with Myles
Jack.
TS: Trade back would’ve been ideal, but
it’ll take a team to REALLY want one of the BPA.
21.
TS: Philadelphia
Eagles – WR Justin Jefferson, LSU Team Needs: WR, CB, S, LB, EDGE
TS: I think this pick is going to be WR.
Maybe Higgins, but Jefferson still has nice height and can do anything the
Eagles need him to do.
KB: Slam dunk pick. No complaints. Every
team needs a different WR and this is exactly the version of WR that is missing
for Wentz & Co.
22.
TS: Minnesota
Vikings (from Buffalo Bills) – EDGE Yetur Gross-Matos, Penn St Team Needs: CB, WR,
iOL, EDGE
TS: Many have a WR going here with the
loss of Diggs, but this is a deep WR class, and they need a rusher with Griffen
gone. Fear of him not being there at 25 makes this the pick now.
KB: REALLY?!? I don’t hate the
player/fit/reason for this pick and you’re right I don’t know if he would’ve
been there at 25. Not even surprised that it wasn’t a WR. They lost all of
their corners. Cut Rhodes and lost CB2 and their nickel to Cincy in FA. They
NEED a corner here but maybe you have one in mind at 25. To me their corner
need is the biggest non-QB need going into the Draft amongst all teams
TS: Vikings need a lot.
KB: Belichick wants to move back here at
pick 23. Any teams looking for Love or Josh Jones? We are OK with moving back
to the 2nd round for the right price. I have a feeling the Colts are
interested. Any NFC teams?
TS: The Lions will make an offer, the 35th
and 67th picks for the 23rd and 195th (6th
round).
KB: Colts are offering their pick at 34, a
2 next year and a 4th this year at 122.
23.
TRADE! KB:
Indianapolis Colts (from New England Patriots) – QB Jordan Love, Utah St Team
Needs: WR, QB
KB: If the Colts want Love in their live,
they know it won’t come easy. They must jump a team like NO who are expected to
value their backup QB as they have in previous years (Teddy). Good thing for
Indy is that they still have a 2nd this year after this trade, so
they won’t be very long without picking again.
TS: I think it’s a great move for the
Colts. I feel like the Pats could’ve taken Love for themselves, but they’re
hungry for additional picks both this year and next. I entirely expect a trade
back similar to this one.
24.
TS: New
Orleans Saints – CB Kristian Fulton, LSU Team Needs: OG, CB, LB
TS: This pick is either CB, WR, or Queen.
There are a ton of options here and I don’t expect a trade back or luxury pick.
KB: I could see the Saints as a team in
the Ruiz conversation with their iOL not particularly as talented as it has
been. However, I like this pick a lot. Fulton isn’t forced to be a CB1. True
BPA pick.
25.
TS: Minnesota
Vikings – WR Tee Higgins, Clemson Team Needs: CB, WR, iOL, EDGE
TS: I feel that Higgins is actually a
better fit for the Vikings than Jefferson. They could also go DB. Again, they
have a lot of needs.
KB: WHAAAAAAA…T?!?! Hate it. Hate it so
much. Higgins is Round 3 for me.
TS: Could be Mims or Gladney. In my
opinion, they have 3 big needs. Only 2 picks in the 1st.
KB: I agree with 3 big needs, and to be
honest I could argue they have even more. But that’s why you address the dire
need at corner at 22 and then maybe trade back and collect more picks to
address the others. WR is so deep that Higgins would’ve been available in the 2nd.
26.
KB: Miami
Dolphins (from Houston Texans) – iOL Cesar Ruiz, Michigan Team Needs: RB, OT,
iOL, DT, EDGE, S
KB: Best center in the class. Best guard
in the class. Will and can play either position especially for Miami that loves
versatility. The idea for the draft to center around protecting the QB with
multiple OL and eventually a RB. Jackson and Ruiz will do that.
TS: Seattle, per tradition, is looking to
trade back and pick up some selections. Quite a few teams came in with a good
offer, but GB being just a few picks away and adding the 136th and
175th picks (4th and 5th) win the bidding.
27.
TRADE! TS: Green
Bay Packers (from Seattle Seahawks) – OT Josh Jones, Houston Team Needs: WR, TE,
DT
TS: This could definitely be a WR, Mims or Reagor, but GB
decided to stick to the board. Jones, I have higher than Jackson whom Miami
selected earlier. The Pack have traded up in the last 2 drafts, Seattle hasn’t used
their original 1st round pick since 2011!
KB: Packers getting some depth on the
oft-injured OL. Like this move. I don’t mind Jones at all in the first round, I
just think Jackson would be better for Miami’s system.
28.
KB: Baltimore
Ravens – LB Zack Baun, Wisconsin Team Needs: LB, iOL
KB: Not your prototype at LB, but he is perfect for the Ravens
defensive scheme. They had some trouble getting an extension done with Judon,
so they tagged him. Baun will be his replacement next year. But for the time
being, the rich get richer.
TS: I think Baun is a good player, but I don’t agree. They could go
BPA here and truly be fat with strength. That’s how the Ravens can take advantage
of their Super Bowl window and become dominant. RB or Safety come to mind.
29.
KB: Tennessee
Titans – DE AJ Epenesa, Iowa Team Needs: OT, CB, EDGE, DT
KB: This is someone who was a top 10 pick
after he played his last game in college. And now some don’t see him as a 1st
rounder at all because of his testing. Another issue is, he is very scheme specific,
like Baun. Isn’t very bendy and won’t cause Von Miller-esque havoc. But he is a
good enough rusher to create pressure in the pocket and is fantastic in run defense.
Great add for a former Belichick disciple.
TS: 100% with you on this pick. Very talented
and just what they need at the right value.
KB: This of course only happens if they
are not the winner of the Clowney sweepstakes.
30.
TS: Seattle
Seahawks (from Green Bay Packers) – CB Jeff Gladney, TCU Team Needs: WR, EDGE,
DT, OT, iOL
TS: The first of a trio of TCU players to
go soon. With DL picked over, Seahawks address another need with the best
available corner.
TS: Now the 49ers are on the phones. Looks
like Detroit is interested in this pick for picks 35 and 109 in the 4th.
31.
TRADE! TS: Detroit Lions
(from San Francisco 49ers) – CB AJ Terrell, Clemson Team Needs: OG, CB, EDGE,
DT
TS: I think this move completes the Lions
draft. They missed on Okudah so they want to make sure they get their CB, moving
in front of KC to do it. AJ has the speed and tools needed to compete on this
level. If the 49ers stayed here, I could see them going after DT Blacklock from
TCU to replace Buckener.
KB: KC didn’t get any favors with the
board. Anyone want to move up to grab the 5th year option?
TS: How does 47, 91, and 199 for this pick
sound? Atlanta has their eyes on a certain someone from their home state.
32.
TRADE! TS: Atlanta
Falcons – RB De’Andre Swift, Georgia Team Needs: EDGE, CB, DT, RB
TS: I think Swift fits this team, complimenting Gurley, and could be
the best RB in the class. Getting this pick done in the first round means they
get the 5th year option instead of paying that kind of money to a
veteran RB.
KB:
Love this trade, love this pick. Great capper to our mock. Thanks Thomas!
